In October 2004, John Cheek, President and Ed Canty, Brewer,
It took over a year, but April 7th, 2006 Orlando Brewing reopened its doors at our present location: 1301 Atlanta Avenue, Orlando, Florida. The transition wasn’t easy, but Orlando Brewing came back better than ever and with one major upgrade; we went organic.
Before the big move, the brewery was working on building up inventory for the transition period, and by accident (or you could say by a stroke of luck) organic grains were delivered instead of the regular grain shipment. Upon trying the organic grains, it was evident that they were more efficient; they had a higher level of conversion and yield. Despite their high cost, they give our beers better, more complex flavors and help to define the hop characteristics. Since this discovery we’ve brewed with nothing but organic, and in 2006 we received our organic certification.
Here at the Brewery we believe in quality. You can’t create quality beer without quality ingredients. But we also believe in purity. Not only is Orlando Brewing beer organic, but it is also made in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot, the German purity Law of 1516. With the exception of four beers a year (known as “The Violator Series”, which are still all-organic), our beer is made only with the finest barley, hops, water and yeast; you’ll find no extract or adjunct here.
Orlando Brewing beer is the only beer around declared “Fresh From Florida” by the state’s Department of Agriculture. It is also never pasteurized and therefore must remain cold.
At Orlando Brewing we love all things local, organic and sustainable. That’s why our six-pack holders and plastic cases are recyclable and reusable, while our sampler flight trays are up-cycled wooden pallets. It’s also why we donate our spent grains, which are 100% certified organic and high in fiber and protein, to local and organic farmers in the surrounding area to be used as feed, helping to sustain our community’s local and organic agriculture.
With over 20 taps flowing in the Taproom, Orlando Brewing serves some of the cleanest, freshest and tastiest beers you will ever try!
